1): During the initial stages, we carried out a questionnaire for our target audience and our planned music video production. We stored the results on to Microsoft excel. The reason why we did this was because we needed to be aware of primary feedback and more importantly the needs and preferences of our target audience when it comes to the making of the music video.
Here are some of the key questions that was asked in our survey:
1. Do you value star image in a music video?
The results of this showed that most of our target audience valued star Image within a music video, therefore this is what we implemented knowing that it is the preference and need of our target audience.
2. What micro-element will be the most important in the music video?
The result for this question showed that our target audience believed that Mis en scene would be the most important micro element for the music video. Therefore, we mostly highlighted our use of Mis en scene knowing that it will appeal to our target audience the most.
3. What types of Issues do you want to see portrayed in the music video?
As you can see, our target audience seem to relate to social issues the most in music videos. The issue of 'falling in love' ( which is what our song cover is about), is generally a social norm that our target audience relates to which is why we used it for our video.
4.
What appeals to you the most to hip hop music videos the most?
The answer for this shows that most people in our target audience found that the artist were the most appealing to hip hop music videos.
How did this help you make decisions?
The results of this helped us to create a music video that was original and distinctive. This also helped us to fit our targets within the music video like the themes of the song as well as fulfilling the requirements of our target audience.
The importance of receiving critical feedback once the production has been made:
The importance of receiving feedback that is critical is that it makes us aware if we did make a conventional hip hop/soul music video. Also, critical feedback will help us make targets for improvement.
Why did we put our work on YouTube?
We put our work on YouTube because it is the music sharing video website, Therefore, our product would gain the most amount of media exposure as our target audience usually goes on the website to view music videos giving us more reason to put our music video on the website.
As you can clearly seen we have over 50 views of our music video on YouTube as well as 3 likes to zero.
As you can see we received positive comments from 2 people. xEpicxSpectrex had given us positive feedback on the editing within our music video. LWilliams had complimented us for the relationship between our 2 artists in the video stating that he could see the relationship between them.
On the negative side, we received a comment from ace hood stating that the lip-syncing needed improvement as he mentions that it was a bit slow paced.
Facebook: We also put our music video on Facebook because we wanted it to be more accessible and criticized by more of our target audience. At least 3 likes were giving to our music video that I shared on Facebook. This also make me think that we made a conventional music video to the hip hop genre.
Focus group: Focus groups were held to reflect and review the music video that we released. Some of the critique comments that we had was that we the lip-syncing was a bit slow paced behind the track. Some of the positive feedback we received was that there were good shots taken of our male artist in the music video and also that there was good chemistry between our 2 artists.
In conclusion we used a different media platforms to promote our music video, this would helps us getting as much feedback as possible, to find out if we made a media product that was conventional or not. Even though there was room for improvement we overall received positive feedback. As I look back at our product of the music video, I strongly take into consideration that since we did a music video cover the lip-syncing was a bit slow placed as mentioned from our focus group. The feedback has really helped us to understand the aspects we need to improve on to make a conventional music video.
